This small set of paintings was created for the Trading Card Art Show on show through the end of December 2017 at the Gristle Art Gallery.
I have been very invested in learning about the history of cemetery symbolism, and the colors that occur naturally in cemeteries.
This series consisting of Ascend, Eternity, and Descend pulls from iconography relevant to me and my lost family members.
Descend is the hand pointing down with the broken chain and laurel, the broken chain means loss in the family, the laurel represents evergreen/fond memories of the lost, and the hand pointing down means that God's hand descended from heaven.
Eternity is an upside down torch with a lit flame that will ultimately extinguish itself.
Ascend, the hand pointing up baring a heart with locked chains below it means that the loved one was charitable and arose to heaven.
This is EXCLUSIVELY sold as a set of three, no separating the set. They each measure 3" x 4" painted on Hot Press Arches paper and are painted with acryla-gouache.
